Pansy Garden Therapy Sign

A beautiful new day and a new week!  Last week I did not get to that daisy painting tutorial but I am still aiming to get it done so bear with me. 

I did get a sign painted along with a custom order one. A new Garden Therapy sign

Yellow Roses and purple pansies.  I love the color combo. 



I need to get it listed on my website and I will do so but first I want to run over to a neighborhood that has a street that I swear all the homeowners tried to outdo each other in Japanese Maple plantings. 

They are a glorious red right now (or were last week, lets hope they still are) and I want to get some photos to share. If they are post worthy I will get share them tomorrow.

Now this little Mister has been giving me fits.



This surface of vintage broken boards cried out for a rooster painted on them.  But I have started and stopped several times as I can’t seem to get him right. 

So I switched over to do the hen who came out right the first time around.



You can see I reworked his eye and I seem to have made it worse but sometimes I get into a painting, hate it and continue on anyways and it turns out just fine. 

Once I get Mister Rooster the way I want him I will decide if it calls out for words to be a sign or just leave it as a painting.  Or I can offer it plain and the customer can ask for custom wording on it.  Also I will sand the edges a lot to give it a rustic frame. I think…

I am off to photograph the trees.  I do hope the light is right.

Roosters and Chickens in the kitchen

I read of a Rooster and Chickens party and wanted to join in.  I have a few of the yard birds that grace my humble little kitchen.  I made the sign above to fit over the window above my kitchen sink. 


I have a few Rooster figurines from my grandmothers kitchen, she was the first lady I of my acquaintance to be a chicken and rooster collector.  sorry the photo is blurry, but this is Barney, I think my Grandma named every rooster she ever had “Barney”. 

This pitcher was the original color inspiration for my kitchen though now I lean more towards the reds for winter and aqua in summer.  Thankfully my Rooster items still blend in with the new colors.

A pair of Salt and Pepper shakers my sister got me, at least I think she is the one that gave me these….Yep, I am pretty sure. Thanks Sarah.

And last but not least another one from my Grandma, he resides between the Kitchen Aid mixer and the knife rack.   I spy him every morning as I fix breakfast, he reminds me of Grandma Jo each and every day.

Chicken Signs!

Last Friday we were inundated with snow and this week we had sunshine and 70 degrees.  I had a grand time in the valley, it was 87 there at 3:30pm as we headed back up the hill.  We found out that our A/C in the Suburban is on the fritz.  You would not believe the things that have gone wrong or broken down on us in the past year.   I am not normally paranoid but I beginning to wonder…
My hubby had a business meeting to go to so we dropped him off on one side of Stockton then my mom and I took off for JoAnn’s off I-5, I had some craft paint to pick up and some zippers for some tops I am making, we also checked out Ross and Target in that same shopping center. 
Satisfied with that little jaunt we zoomed over to Burlington Coat factory to look for a little suit for my toddler nephew.  We were successful and found him one and we both found a skirt we had to have.  By that time my hubby texted me and we had to drive on across town to pick him back up.  Lunchtime! 
We ate, ran thru Costco (phew, on a Friday and the 1st of the month) then I wanted to stock up on the sugar free chocolate at Wal-Mart, which I did.  I loved every warm moment of running, it felt good after being cooped up for a couple weeks.  Plus, the drive down is so lovely this time of year, green rolling hills, rivulets of wild flowers winding along and lots of cows.
Now that I have regaled you with my day I will actually post the photos I wanted to share with you…I paint, signs mostly but it may seem I do flowers and flowers and more flowers so I was going to share with you many of my chicken signs I have done over the years.  Some were done it 2 pieces..like this Red Rooster sign..

This one is very similar..

Some of these are from 2003, sometimes I find it hard to believe how long I have been painting. My style has evolved for sure.

This one is still a favorite of mine.  I need to make one for myself as this one sold long ago.

I even added some veggies..

I like the primitive style of these chickens..

This one was a special order, a gal sent me a piece of wallpaper from her kitchen to paint a sign to match.

These are just a sample of the chicken signs I have done.  Just a little evidence that I do paint things other than flowers.
