May 15th with SNOW!

Good morning all.  I awoke this morning to this…

Yes, that is my freshly painted potting bench in the background, this will be the first test of Chalk Paint enduring snow.
The weatherman said 4 inches of snow ABOVE 6000 feet and maybe a wee bit at our 4500 feet elevation.  I guess he was WRONG again.  We have at least 6 inches on the back deck and more is falling, fast and furious as we speak.  My tulips are groaning under the weight of it all..

They were all starting to bloom so pretty.

My rose tree and a potted rose are under there…somewhere.

This will most likely punch out my greenhouse roof again.  Sigh!
On another note, our trip to the valley was most enjoyable yesterday.  I had forgotten how busy places like Michaels, Wal-Mart and Costco are on weekends.  Everyone was out and about town. The weather was quite pleasant, a comfy 65 degrees.
I need to dig out my snow boots so I can go feed and water the chickens.  My only consolation is in a few days it will be back into the 70’s and this will melt faster than a wink.  (note positive attitude, it may not last!)
I hope you have sunny skies and balmy temps where you are!
Cheers,

  1. WOW!!! I would expect all that snow in Maine, but not California. We are getting rain today.

  2. My knee jerk reaction was "that's just not right!!!". But... your pic showing the row of red tulips is actually very pretty! Guess your positive attitude is catching:@)

  3. That must be quite the shock. But saying that, I love the touch of color coming from the tulips in the snow.

  4. Oh, so sorry about the snow! The picture of your tulips with the snow looks beautiful, but I know it is disheartening. I hope it melts soon and doesn't do any damage.

  6. Good grief! I thought it was bad yesterday when we got hail, but this is terrible. Tulips in the Snow -- sounds like a lipstick shade, not a garden event.

  7. Pamela, I feel you pain. Been there done that but not quite this late. Last of April that happens here a lot. This year the tulip and daffs weren't even visible as tiny plants until the end of April. WE have nothing but rain right now but the temp is dropping down to 46 right now. May have to put the heat back on in the greenhouses tonight.

  8. That tulip photo is stunning! I know you must be tired of snow and though I love it, I was getting a little weary of it by winters end myself here but I can't say I wouldn't love waking up to it right now! I hope it melts quickly though and there's no damage to your garden. Happy GBBD too!

  10. Oh mercy, that is terrible! I hope your snow melts soon and your tulips survive just fine. We had a late snow a few years ago and I was terrified it would ruin all the bulbs, but they were ok!

  11. Oh my-I live in Maine and I won't say it's not impossible here that's for sure!! -but rain now is not looking too bad today-or for the next 5 as predicted and then THAT's enough for awhile!! The tulips under the snow are beautiful though!!

  14. The snow makes a pretty picture with the tulips, but I can understand your anguish. I do hope everything survives...the resilience of plants never ceases to amaze me. Oh, and I just love your "Creative Cottage!"

  15. Looks like you woke up to the save stuff we did. Well, hopefully Spring will be on its way soon. Hope the tulips survive the cold.

  19. Oh no!!! Not SNOW!!! UGH! Although your potting bench looks really great, I love the color and now you can see if the paint will hold up to the elements that has been thrown at it this week. :) I hope it melts quickly and the tulips can continue to bloom. :)

  20. That's a lot of snow! I didn't know California could get snow at this time of year. Amazing. Well, I hope it warms up soon for you so you can enjoy getting out. Your tulips are beautiful.
