My Serene Spot 3 Ways

bistro1

Come on over and rest a spell.

I will pour you a glass of wine and we can sit and talk.

wine

I have this little spot on my back deck that is waiting for you.

It isn’t fancy…

bistro27

Just restful and quiet on a warm summers evening.

The softest of breezes is blowing…

blues1

it brings along the sweet perfume of roses.

Take a deep breath and enjoy.

We can watch the hummingbirds stop by to take a nip from a bright petunia blossom.

Their grace and beauty are a site to behold.

Oh….

Can you hear the robins singing?

apple27

They have enjoyed the warmth of the day and now are tucking their babies into bed.

Their song is a lullaby that calms and comforts.

The only other sound is the gentle melody of the fountain.

Just sit back, put your feet up and relax.

Do you need an extra cushion?

Maybe a refill on that glass of wine?

I will go get that for you now.

“wishing you were actually here to really enjoy”

May 15th with SNOW!

Good morning all.  I awoke this morning to this…
DSC_0048
Yes, that is my freshly painted potting bench in the background, this will be the first test of Chalk Paint enduring snow.
The weatherman said 4 inches of snow ABOVE 6000 feet and maybe a wee bit at our 4500 feet elevation.  I guess he was WRONG again.  We have at least 6 inches on the back deck and more is falling, fast and furious as we speak.  My tulips are groaning under the weight of it all..

They were all starting to bloom so pretty.

My rose tree and a potted rose are under there…somewhere.

This will most likely punch out my greenhouse roof again.  Sigh!
On another note, our trip to the valley was most enjoyable yesterday.  I had forgotten how busy places like Michaels, Wal-Mart and Costco are on weekends.  Everyone was out and about town. The weather was quite pleasant, a comfy 65 degrees.
I need to dig out my snow boots so I can go feed and water the chickens.  My only consolation is in a few days it will be back into the 70’s and this will melt faster than a wink.  (note positive attitude, it may not last!)
I hope you have sunny skies and balmy temps where you are!
Cheers,

360 degrees on my back deck!

360button

Here is my 360 degree view of my back deck as of today.  This will all be changed as the summer progresses and I will share.  Lots needs to be done out here and since the snow has only been gone maybe a week it has not been touched as far as making it more presentable, you get the REAL deal.

First shot is to the side of our house, you can see the roof of my Storybook cottage/studio and my “recovering from a hard winter” potted roses.  As you can see our deck and rails need some TLC desperately!

DSC_0298

I am turning to my right as I photograph (in case you could not figure that out).  You can see the sun is just rising over the trees and highlighting the mountain in the background.  Funny how I don’t notice the power lines until I see them in the photos.

DSC_0299

My freshly built potting bench which is a future post. We built this yesterday in about 3 hours.  It was a lovely sunny day, finally! You can see my fresh cup of hot coffee sitting upon it, I gotta have my coffee first thing (even if it is decaf).   Tulips are popping up in my barrel, the tall bent plant is a black bamboo, poor thing took a beating over the winter.  The roof line behind the barrel is my chicken pen.  Our lot is a downslope.

DSC_0300

Oh this is pretty!  Our now dead beloved fancy, dancy dutch door stainless steel refrigerator that my husband moved to the back deck rather than hauling off to the dump. (he promised to haul it off on our next cleaning day)
No one told us that the power surges and brown outs would kill the compressor.  Hint to everyone, put a power surge protector on your refrigerator! With the heavy snows we had this winter we had tons of surges and brown outs.  Sigh! I miss my big fridge, we are using a loaner now, it is apartment sized, and though I am oh so grateful for it I still do miss the room I had in this one.

DSC_0301

I need to explain this little raised section, this used to be a metal roof over the heater and water heater room, I had a local builder put this section of decking over it so we could utilize this space rather than look down at a roof.  We had thought to put a hot tub here but never did. In the background you see the back of our garage and the woodshed roof.

DSC_0302

Our fountain, this gets plugged in in the summer, the hummers use the falling water as a shower, it is quite comical to watch.  The window is to my kitchen and it is nice to listen to the fountain flowing as I do my chores inside.  We turned the patio table (to the far left) down for the winter, good thing too or it would’ve collapsed under the weight of the snow we had this year.  I need to clean it and set it up.

DSC_0303

The back slider.  This looks into the dining area and living room.  You can see the orange glow of the fire going in the woodstove.  It was a nippy 36 degrees this morning.  The fire removes the chill from the house until the sun is fully up. Tyler the cat thinks he needs to be fed.

DSC_0304

And now we are about where we started.  This side porch wraps around to join the front.  The gutter was ripped down by the snow.  Another thing to fix! Our poor little cottage has been beat to heck lately.  It needs a lot of lovin’.

DSC_0305

I hope you enjoyed my little 360 degree tour of my back deck.  Come back in a couple months and we will do this again and you shall see how I spruce it up! And I will post about the potting bench!

Until then…
