I Am Heading Out the Door for Yosemite

My Website
I took a break this morning from frantically packing and preparing for the cold weekend ahead at the Strawberry Music Festival, to take a walk in the garden.

I love this time of year when every day bring something new to bloom.

I just love this Firewitch Dianthus, the fuchsia blooms next to the blue green foliage is eye-catching.

The lime thyme is at its best.

I love the spots.

Even just the bud is lovely.

The poppies are just beginning their show.  I let them reseed last year and they are coming up all along the side yard.

According my the label this clematis is supposed to be white with burgundy specks but I think I mislabeled it.

It was supposed to be Bee’s Jubilee.

The other clematis which I do believe is Nellie Moser is snuggled up with my Shropshire Lad English rose.

The Creeping Jenny is filling in an ugly area quite nicely.

Another speckled Iris, I do believe my cousin gave this to me, she dug it up at an old farmstead in Idaho.

That was my morning walk.  I really regret having to leave for nearly a week, I will miss so much.

I will endeavor to enjoy myself. I am not a camping enthusiast and this is not a weekend of leisure, I will be working my fanny off, long hours of hustling then dropping into my bed at night (a memory foam mattress pad tossed into the back of my Suburban) to snooze a bit before starting another day.

And to top it off it is now predicted to be colder than we originally anticipated.  I hate camping in the cold.  And I can’t come home until Monday, unless I can connive some way to get out of there Sunday night.  We shall see.  By then I will be more than ready for a good hot soak, my bed and a warm house not crowded by 25,000 people sharing my bathroom.

Okay, whine over.  I am out the door….

A Short Walk in the Garden

It is the first of the month and it is time to see what is happening (or not) in the garden.

Here we go…

First thing I spot is some Larkspur seedlings popping up, the ground is frosty from our 32 degree night, but they persist in coming up.

Some Blue Star Creeper Groundcover hiding beneath some pine needles.

Volunteer Shirley poppies taking over the Japanese Maple in this pot. I should separate them out…. or not…

This photo turned out so dark, not sure why but this is a climbing rose, Dream Weaver, I do believe, and it is budding very early.  This is the warm side of the house. I just hope a hard freeze does not strike and burn the new growth.

My favorite Clematis at the moment, called Warsaw Nike, it is also sprouting new growth.

My Hydrangea is loaded with fat and sassy buds.

Meet one of my ladies, this is the lone Black Copper Maran hen I ended up with after adopting 5 straight run chicks (my hope was to end up with mostly hens).  Yep I had to find homes for 4 Roosters, they were lovely but noisy.

Her name is Lady Maran, she thinks she is nobility, she expects preferential treatment and though one of the youngest of the hens does not let anyone push her around.  She is a pretty girl.

I also need to announce my winner of the My Memories software.  I totally forgot about it.  Blame it on my total absorption in getting our tax documents sorted and paperwork filled out.

The winner is Bettie, she entered via email which is very convenient since that makes it easy to contact her!

Enjoy the visit to my garden this first week of February.  I will do another in a couple weeks.  We shall see how things have progressed.

A walk in my garden!

A long weekend is coming to an end.  It was wonderfully hot and I loved every minute of the fabulous warmth.  Hot for here is 90 degrees!  Trust me, I know it gets way hotter elsewhere and I have lived there so I never complain when it hits 90 here.  I just revel in it!

My unpacking and organizing is coming along, you can now see my living room is a living room but I still have much more to do.  I will have to pick at it here and there since I must get back to work.  I have 4 custom painted sign orders to complete and one to ship in the morning.

But I thought I would share my morning walk and fresh blooms I am enjoying.  First we have some poppies, I bought a fat little packet of them last Fall and tossed them around.  I just love the result!

There are varying shades of pink.  I just love the contrasting yellow in the center.

And even a red one with white in the center…

There are super frilly ones that look quite exotic.

And my Anne Boelyn rose is putting on her show on my back deck.  The sweet little viola cuddled up to her seeded itself last Fall.

And looky here, my first little tomato, now let’s hope the birds don’t get off with it before I get a taste.

This year I tried a new daisy, I grew them from seed, they are called Prince Zulu.  The name fits.

here is a shot of the sun shining through the papery petals of one of my poppies..

I have been sitting on my front porch enjoying the cooler evening air as I write this, now the sun has gone down and the mosquitoes are hovering.  I guess I should pack it in and head for a tub of water to wash off the garden dirt.

happy Monday all!  I hope you have a wonderful week!
